KCS After School Program - Third Base

Kanawha County Schools is now accepting registrations for the Third Base Afterschool Program for the 2026–2027 school year.

Third Base is a private pay, after-school child care program offered through the Kanawha County Schools Community Education Program (KCSCEP). It is designed to support families with students in kindergarten through fifth grade by providing a safe, structured, and engaging environment after the school day ends.

The program will begin on:

What Third Base Offers

Third Base provides students with a consistent after-school routine that includes time for homework, activities, and social interaction. Third Base is supervised by experienced KCS staff.

  • Central Elementary (also serves Andrews Heights, Anne Bailey, and Lakewood)

  • Flinn Elementary (also serves Sissonville Elementary & 5th graders at Sissonville Middle)

  • Holz Elementary

  • Midland Trail Elementary (also serves Belle, Chesapeake, Cedar Grove, Malden, and Mary Ingles)

  • Nitro Elementary

  • Overbrook Elementary

If your student's Third Base site is not at their home school, KCS will transport them to Third Base on a school bus.

How to Enroll in Third Base

Enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year opens April 1, 2026.

Families can visit the Kanawha County Schools Community Education Program website to download the enrollment packet and family handbook.

  • The enrollment packet is a fillable PDF and must be downloaded to complete

  • Forms must be returned to the KCSCEP office (not your child’s school)

  • Submission methods include email (preferred), fax, mail, or in person

Enrollment is first come, first served and based on site availability. Submission of an application does not guarantee placement. If a site reaches capacity, a waitlist will be created.

Families will be notified by email during the summer regarding enrollment status.

Third Base Cost

  • Weekly Rates:

    • $70 for one child

    • $100 for two children

    • $125 for three children

  • $10 family registration fee (due on the first day of attendance)

Weekly fees are due on the first day of each week your child attends.

Some families may qualify for financial assistance through WV DoHS (CONNECT). Families must have a valid certificate of coverage for their selected Third Base site beginning on the child’s first day of attendance.
